Up and Coming Cosplayers with Gumiho: Interview

I admire cosplayers, and I enjoy not only their art, but learning what motivates them in it.  That is a big reason that I started this page in the first place.  That love has only intensified and manifested in our taking a more media direction rather than retail.

As the face of cosplay has changed, so have the types of cosplayers and how far the envelope been pushed.  There are new breeds of erocosplayers, fetish cosplayers, and lewd/nude content providers.  Some people may disagree, but I think that cosplay is making a full circle back to it’s first roots:  erotic roleplay.

Think about it.  The first place that a person really roleplayed in a well-known fashion was in erotic roleplay:  sexy strippers, wives dressing up as naughty Catholic schoolgirls, and of course sexy Halloween costumes.  In my guestimation, they even predate the Star Trek, Star Wars, and comic book geeks that started cosplay on this continent…but I digress.  ‘Back to Erotic cosplay.

Many of the erotic cosplay content providers are either busy making content, don’t really care for conversation, or some weird combination of both.  This is why it is so fortunate to find such a high profile cosplayer that not only produces so much great content, but is willing to sit down and share about it.

Ladies and Gentlemen, you are in for a treat.  All Cool Things™ would like to formally introduce you to Gumiho, also known as Gumiho.arts.

Your English is exceptional.  How many languages do you speak?  How do you speak this one so well?

Thank you so much for the compliment, I am fluent in German and English and I know a tiiiny bit of Spanish and Japanese, but not enough to speak it.  When I was little I was given lots of English books to practice reading with so I developed English skills rather fast, and most of my followers are English speaking, so there’s that.  Sometimes I even talk in English by accident to German friends. *uff*

I have to tell you: For a cosplayer that is out making such erotic content, you are remarkably polite!  In this climate of Patreons and OnlyFans, I get the vibe that most of the women are only in it for the money, and fake any warmth for the people supporting their art.  That’s really not a question in itself, but I was wondering:  What do you feel about your fellow erotic cosplayers that provide content like you?  Do you feel them a little cold or callus?  Do you really have an opinion?

Thank you, even though it saddens me to hear you made rather unpleasant experiences with other girls, personally, I know quite a lot of girls who have a great passion and love for this kind of content as well (: Sometimes I get across girls who are in it only for the money, and while it makes me a bit sad, as I then can’t share my passionate views about photo projects with them, I also think, who are we to judge, I’m sure there’s plenty of people who are stuck in other jobs except sex work just for the money; take retail work for example.  About personality:  There’s probably bad apples in every community, but most of my experiences with other girls were rather positive.  I love this job for several reasons, but one of them is definitely that I was able to met a lot of amazing and kind girls on the way.

This question can kind of go along with the last one.  While I have seen a few cosplayers that provide erotic content on free Onlyfans, like yourself, you are the ONLY one that I know does that as an alternative to their regular one.  This was another thing about you that earned some respect from me.  What inspired you to do this. (You really didn’t have to, and it’s kinda cool.)

Oh, that is actually surprising to hear! I know quite a lot of girls who have both a free and a paid OnlyFans, since it’s a great way to have at least one social where you don’t have to fear about shadow ban, weird algorithms or being deleted for too NSFW stuff.  Plus, I love having an alternative for those who can’t afford my paid OF, or who want to check the content out more a bit first, since this way I can still stay connected with everyone.

I can explain this with another example from around 2 years ago:  I used to have only Facebook and Instagram back in the day, and when my first posts started to get deleted (nothing too wild even, I wasn’t naked or anything), I had two choices:  Either put everything behind paywall and post only somewhat safe for work, or look out for other socials so I can continue to post free lewds.  I love sharing my photo projects so I wanted to post at least a part from every set on socials for free.  That’s why I opened up a Twitter.  However, even Twitter is shadow banning lewd stuff to death now, and my Reddit is really hard to grow, so a free OF was the perfect way out of this misery!  It’s my lewdest free social where I can post what I want (:

This is going to be a weird question, but it’s in response to a sort of weird answer given on your Cosplayer Score Card.  When asked if you do Nudes, you said “Half-Yes (boobies).” For “More than Nudes,” you answered “Half-Yes (I make softporn, but no full nude yet, who knows what future will bring.)” How did that come about?  How does that work?  LOL I think most people that would draw the line at boobs would not do softcore porn at all.  It’s like just your boobies are naughty, or you’re saving “that” for someone special.

Soo, this is going to be a bit personal, but quite frankly, I didn’t know how far I “could” go in the beginning of me opening up socials.  I’m not saying “want”, cause it has always been a dream to create similar content to the one that I consume and look at myself from other creators.  When I first made a Facebook page, (my first social ever) I was still in school and I didn’t really know what [kind of job] I would work.  I always assumed I would have a boss one day, and work a more standard job, so I didn’t want my boss to fire me for doing very sexy stuff.  I kept it to lingerie at first.  After about a year I finally made enough to realize, that maybe I could live off this.  By now, I definitely can and while my job can only be temporary due to it’s physical nature, I plan to stay self-employed as I can’t imagine not being my own boss.  So, my only limits now are what I WANT to do, without the fear of it affecting my work life negatively.  I also want to take it at my own pace and tempo.

I could see myself doing full nude or even porn, but I don’t have it planned out 100% yet, and I hope people will not pressure me.

A little birdie told me that your professional abilities go beyond your costuming and modeling.  Who does the editing for your pictures?

Yep, that’s me. c: Editing pictures is what consumes the most time in my job and honestly, a bit too much.  I would love to have more time to plan out big and complicated projects, get more into crafting or even streaming, so I might hire someone to help me with editing in the future.

I love editing, cause for me it’s some kind of magic or maybe “translation” to fully portray the vision of what I had in mind when I was in front of the camera.  I just wish it wouldn’t take so long, ahaha.

You have a true knack for modeling.  You radiate sexiness and cuteness in so many varying degrees.  You’re a natural, but what got you into cosplaying?  What made you then make that jump to erotic cosplay and content?

My, my, thank you.  The first question is answered easily though.  When I was still in school, (I was 15 I think) a friend asked me to cosplay with her together, and she explained what cosplay is to me.  I tried it, loved it, and didn’t stop ever since. ;3

For the second question:  I actually was interested in erotic content way before I got interested in cosplay!  Look at my old notebooks for school.  You’ll find them full with scribbles of tiddies and naked women. xD I was always fascinated by the beauty of the human body, especially the curves of women, (yup, I’m bisexual by the way) so it was only natural to me to combine my love for erotica with my love for cosplay (:

Actually, I also took erotic casual content before I took cosplay content, (of course I never sent that to anyone and I never will, cause I was rather young) so, my love for erotica was definitely first!

If you never discovered cosplay, do you think you would still provide erotic content?  Do you ever think about doing specialty porn?

Yep, 100% certain about that! I would also like to emphasize here that I would even create erotic content if it didn’t bring me any money, as I did in the start as well.  I would simply not be able to create as many projects as I do now.  Fashion, makeup, lingerie, paying photographers, accessory, props, renting locations, travel costs, and cosplay most of all, is all together very expensive.

Do you have a lot admirers and fans within your home of Germany, or is it more international?  Is there a country or countries that seem to give you the most love?

My follower base is mostly from the US actually, even though quite a few are also from Germany, yes.  I get lots of love in English and German, sadly I don’t understand what other languages have to say about me.

When it comes to cosplays, you choose very sexy characters and variations.  Do you have any characters that you think you might want to try outside your comfort zone?  ‘Any that you think people might be surprised to see you do? (I actually have the perfect cosplay for you:  The Jeff from Teen Titans Go!)

Oh, I think I actually pick a decent amount of non-sexy character designs as well, it’s usually the boudoir or lewd version of the character that I alter into something sexier.  For example, High Elf Archer from Goblin Slayer sure is cute, but I wouldn’t say her design is especially sexy (aka revealing).  I often make a full cosplay + alternative skimpier versions.

The only thing that’s kinda out of my comfort zone is guys (or in Jeff’s case, people who are supposed to appear male), so Jeff gets a no from me ;3 My first cosplay was a guy (Claude Faustus from Black Butler) but I’m feeling more comfortable portraying women as my face shape and body suits them more.

Other than photo shoots or content compilations, are there any other artists that you like to do work with?  Do you ever work other cosplayers for big costuming or prop making projects?

Oh plenty! DAMN YOU COVID for ruining my collab plans for 2021, there’s so many cool girls out there I want to meet but yeah traveling is tough rn.  I only meet up with some girls close (Germany, Belgium) to me every few months or so rn and we make sure we all are quarantining 2 weeks prior and take COVID tests.

And yeah I recently finally started to get into crafting more.  Dear Mikomi Hokina helped me with a big project I haven’t finished yet, but you will see when it’s done!  I’m a crafting noob so I still have plenty to learn!

What do you do when you are not cosplaying, modeling, or editing?  What do you like to do in your free time?

I read, (mostly fantasy/sci-fi) game, (mostly League and some Indie games on the side) draw, (mostly boobies) dance, workout, and I like to pretend one of my hobbies is writing, except I haven’t written in ages and I feel super bad about it.  I think last time I wrote was when I was still in school and that was… 2017, big oof.  I swear, one day I’m gonna write again. *cries*

OH, and I got into TikTok recently, so that’s something I also wanna explore more!  I wanna do those cool transition videos from couch potato to full dressed up glamour. ahaha

PS: Follow me on TikTok, I’m new there and need guidance. XD (@gumihocosplay)

I swear, there’s not enough hours in a day! It’s driving me crazy, why can’t I have 10 extra hours please…

Have you ever attended any conventions outside of Germany?  Are there any conventions in other countries that you want to go to?

Not yet, but I’d love to! I wanna go to Lucca Comics, (Italy) La Mole, (Mexico) Katsucon, (US) and MCM (UK) so BADLY ;_;

Are there any things you would like to accomplish outside the world of cosplay, modeling, and entertainment?

Yep, write and publish a book of my own.

If there was anything you wanted your fans and admirers to know, what would it be?

Thanks to you, I’m able to do what I do, and I’ll be forever grateful for that.  I couldn’t imagine my life without you, quite literally.  Any creator is nothing without their audience.  That gives them their stage.  It makes me incredibly happy to read all the motivation, good vibes and feedback from all of you, and I always appreciate constructive feedback too.

That said, here’s a special shoutout to my OnlyFans, cause I never experienced sweeter or more wholesome chats than there.  You guys are the MVPs, and proove the point you can release loads of stress to a person and respect them at the same time. ;3 ‘Makes me happy to make you happy by doing something that makes me happy, double the happiness for everyone, yay! <3

Now that you’re tired of hearing me say the word “happy” I’d like to close the last question of the interview:  Thank you for having me and I hope it was somewhat interesting to read. (:

Up and Coming Cosplayers with Gumiho: Cosplayer Score Card

Cosplay Name: Gumiho

How You Came Up With Name:  Gumiho is Korean and basically means “fox” (in the mythological world, especially), it’s similar to the Japanese word “kitsune.” I love foxes very very much, especially the magical ones from tales and legends, and Ahri, my first league of legends main, is also a kitsune, so it came natural. Kitsune was a name that was already taken a lot in cosplay world, so I dug up the Korean equivalent to this word.  I’m happy with how I can shorten Gumiho to Gumi now as a nickname :3

Other Known Aliases:  Gumi, my preferred nickname

Make Your Own Costumes:  ‘Only partially, ‘can’t sew.

Make Your Own Props:  Partially, wanna get into prop making more in the future.

Do Your Own Hair:  Yeah.

Up and Coming Cosplayers with Queen B Cosplay: Pictorial

It was a pleasure featuring Queen B Cosplay for this Up and Coming Cosplayers.  I would have thought that cosplayers would be more open to being featured for all of the home-bound masses of a COVID-19 world, but strangely enough we have been hurting for cooperative and participating cosplayers (hence our new series “Cosplay at a Glance).

If you haven’t read our interview with Queen B Cosplay, I suggest you do, as it will lend portent into our choice of photos for her pictorial, as well as give you more of a appreciation for them.

One thing that we will tell you that we did not get to touch upon in her interview, is that Queen B Cosplay is a graphic designer and editor.  In fact, you can see some of her work in her pictorial, as well as the other pictures in her Cosplayer Score Card and Interview.

Without further ado, please enjoy the pictorial for Queen B Cosplay:  The Fighting Queen!

Up and Coming Cosplayers with Queen B Cosplay: Interview

With COVID-19 still in full effect, I’ve had a dry spell of cosplay goodness for my Up and Coming Cosplayer series, and so I had to find another way to share great lesser known cosplayer with you all.  Fortunately for me, this fighting queen answered my call without fear, and we’ve gotten some great articles and content from working with her.

She’s #CosFit as a fitness enthusiast and a martial artist of several disciplines.  She’s a gamer that loves her fighting games, and lives her life like her cosplay characters:  in charge and independently.

All Cool Things™ is proud to present 2021’s first Up and Coming Cosplayer:  Queen B Cosplay!

I think I always ask this question, but it’s too big to put as a form question in my “Cosplayer Score Card.” How did you get into cosplay?  Is there a person that helped indoctrinate you?

I saw a Facebook event suggestion for Anime Pasadena back in 2019.  Then one day I looked at concept art for C. Viper and I was like: “I could totally pull it off!”

It took me like a month and a half to pull together store bought clothes that looked similar, and a whole bunch of YouTube videos on how to do the wig.

What were some of the things that you really fell in love with, about cosplay?  What made you realise that you had found a community for you?

I loved that not only do I share some martial arts skills as some of my favorite characters, but now I can look like them!

I am always in love with the transformation and give me an excuse to dress up.  My makeup game has improved because of cosplaying.

POC Cosplayers on Facebook has been overwhelmingly supportive and inspired me to take cosplaying more seriously.

Like many cosplayers, you have passions beyond that you draw inspiration from.  One of them is martial arts.  How did you get into martial arts?  What disciplines do you know?

My very first introduction to martial arts was Karate at the age of 16.  I was consistent for about a year and a half, then took to studying and preparing for college.  During college I’ve dabbled in Krav Maga, Gumdo, and Kung Fu San Soo.

I really got serious with my training when I took up Juj Jitsu for the purpose of MMA.  Through that, I’ve also taken boxing and Muay Thai classes.  During COVID, I plan to take Gumdo back up because I can still practice social distance, but I plan to get back into Muay Thai and Jui Jitsu after COVID is under control.

I can tell by your cosplays that you are also a fan of fighting games.  Which did you like first:  martial arts or fighting games?  Did one get you into the other?

I was exposed to fighting games first, but shortly after I took up Karate which boosted my confidence a little.  It wasn’t until I saw Tekken 5 for the first time, and I was so pumped up, I signed up for Kung Fu the next week.

‘Been my obsession ever since.

I grew up a SEGA man, for various reasons.  To me, SEGA systems always made the best SNK ports, and tried their best to be arcade accurate with every port they ever got, rather than other systems that took liberties depending on their strengths and weaknesses.  What was/is your console manufacturer of choice?

I’ve always been a SONY girl.  My family got the “family PlayStation” so we were all gamers when I was a kid.  I do sometimes wish that I had a Nintendo for the sake of nostalgia attached to Mario, Zelda, etc, but I love that I grew up with Spyro (I LOVE Dragons!) Crash Bandicoot, Final Fantasy (which inspired me to get into game art and design), Resident Evil, Tekken, and sooo many more!

What are some of your favourite fighting games?  Do you tend to like 2D or 3D better?  Do you tend to like the older or newer fighting games, better?

I like 3D better to play, but I do like to look at concept art for the 2D games. Tekken, Soulcalibur, and Mortal Kombat are my main faves.

What is it about fighting game characters that inspires you to cosplay?  Do any of those qualities translate to the other characters you have cosplayed, like Sephiroth?

Being a martial artist, it’s such a nice feeling when I pull off a move during a round and I’m like “I can totally do that in real life!” Walking around as my favorite fighting character at cons knowing that I can mimic their fighting moves is icing on the cake for me.

Also, a lot of game characters have such unique fashion sense.  King of Fighters has great fashion in my opinion.

I LOVE weapons, so much so that I collect antique blades. So a character donned in black leather, long gorgeous hair, and a katana… Why didn’t I cosplay him sooner!?

Between the cosplay, working out, and martial arts, would you say that romantic interests find you intimidating?  Do you find time for it?  Would you say that you have to find time for love outside of these interests, or does it help to find someone within them?

I spent much of my adult life on my own, getting my work and home in balance.  I have been told once that I was intimidating:  A woman who can defend herself, makes her own money, and has a place of her own?  I suppose it’s kind of a rarity.  I think those who have the right mindset, or one similar to me, wouldn’t be intimidating.  I do love that the intimidating factor does weed out the not-so-eligible suitors, LOL.

The only problem I find when looking for love is that I am extremely picky:  I look for a man who shares the same core values, is just as loyal as I am, and physical activity is a must, (martial arts is a huge bonus for me) and is a nerd like me.

I’m sure you can imagine the search for a partner takes quite a while, but I have taught myself to love my own company so I never settle or rush into anything, and I am content when I am single.  I rarely consider anyone outside of shared interests.  What would there be to talk about?  I prefer quality connections, not to collect bodies.

You are a relatively new cosplayer, so there is still so much to learn.  What aspects of cosplay and crafting would you like to explore next?  Is there an aspect that you are working on, now?

I would LOOOOOOOVE to learn EVA foam armor.  I am planning on getting a 3D printer soon.  Being a 3D Artist, it only makes sense to incorporate it into my cosplay.  I figured I could learn 3D armor printing first

Have any cosplayers taken you under their wing to help give tips on the craft?  Are there any cosplayers that you like to collaborate with?

I am the type of person to figure things out for myself, LOL.  Sometime I do post a question or 2 on Facebook cosplay groups, but I tend to be pretty independent.

Some would say that now is one of the worst times to get into cosplay because of COVID-19, and how it has caused so many conventions to be put on hold.  How do you keep your fledgling flame alive without so much interaction with the community?

I feel I do get the interaction of the community…but without being crammed in a hall next to potentially hygiene-compromised fans… and all of the other downsides to con-going.  I’ve taken part in
a few online contests, live chats, and I’ve even won some prizes here and there.  I use this at-home time to be my own subject for learning photography, and improving my photo compositing and 3D photo integration.  I am excited for when cons come back.  I have so many new costumes to show!

Were there any conventions in particular that you missed because of COVID-19 that you definitely would have attended?

I’ve never been to Fanime, but the idea of a 24/7-ish con is amazing.  I was about to go earlier last year, but COVID happened. I definitely want to go one day.

Is there anything that you particularly enjoy about conventions?  Before cosplay, had you ever experienced “con life?”

I’ve always been to tech/game conventions like SIGGRAPH, and even a few E3’s.

When COVID-19 becomes moot, do you think you would like to start travelling to conventions out of state or region?

100%, I plan to first go to GACUCon, which is a gaming/anime convention via Royal Caribbean, then I want to go to Thailand for some Muay Thai camps, and beach fun/cosplay shoots, and
of course, Japan, LOL.  I actually have a whole list of travel ideas…

As a newcomer to cosplay, do you have a message to would-be cosplayers sitting on the fence?

Cosplay really is for everyone!  It adds an extra dimension to your favorite show or video game when you can cosplay as your favorite character.  You don’t have to start big, in fact you could even just do closet cosplay, or even casual versions of your favorite character.  It is a very good outlet to expressing oneself.

Up and Coming Cosplayers with Madookie Cospoop: Pictorial

I think Madookie Cospoop might be the only cosplayer featured because I saw a sponsored link on Facebook.  In a lot of ways, she is typical for a cosplayer in 2020.  She’s looking for a following, and she’s not afraid to outright work for it.  However, she’s also quite friendly and approachable to her admirers and fans; this means cosplay gold.

Please enjoy her pictorial, and as always, if you really like this article, please comment, share, and do the same for Madookie Cospoop

Up and Coming Cosplayers with Mishamai: Pictorial

Mishamai was one of the few cosplayers that I didn’t post before because for one reason or another, I could not get her interview questions back.  Since that’s not such a strict requirement, anymore, reselected the photos I had already gathered of her and fished some newer ones from her Facebook to make the pictorial up to date.

I not only enjoyed Mishamai’s art, but I appreciated her very unique body that she has worked hard to maintain, as well.

We have quite a big gallery, here, so enjoy!
