MegaCon Tampa 2018

In late September of 2018, All Cool Things™ attended MegaCon Tampa 2018 in Tampa, Florida.
MegaCon 2018 was not like most cons we have attended as it seemed to have a strong element of horror and fans of horror.

There were many special headlining guests but I found the con to be lacking.  It was very expensive to get autographs and signed pictures and the accommodations for food could have been handled much better.  On Sunday, lines lasted for hours just to get a $10 confection burger and fries or con pizza.  There were also a lot fewer attendees than I expected.

By the way, I was very impressed with the Teddy Bear Walker Girl.  When I commented on how well her face looked like a zombie, her mother replied, “Oh that’s how she usually does.  That’s just teen angst!” When they walked away, sure enough, that’s just how she still looked.

Western Cosplay Night at Battle & Brew November 2018

November 10, 2018, Battle & Brew hosted a Western Cosplay Night and Contest, probably in honour of Red Dead Redemption 2’s release.  I was pleasantly surprised by the service and friendliness of a lot of the staff, many of which were new to me.
If Battle & Brew keeps this up, I think they will find themselves with a lot of new customers.

Conyers Toy and Comic Show 2019

This was so uneventful that I felt no need to take any pictures.  Only one person showed up in cosplay, and it was as a Ghostbuster.

The show was held in an American Legion in Conyers in a medium sized room.

Toylanta 2019

All Cool Things™ showed up at Toylanta 2019 to help Ruff Edges promote their Cartersville Comic Con in mid-September.
We really didn’t get a chance to experience it for fun, but I can tell you that this is one of those shows that I wouldn’t call a convention.  it’s pretty much a gathering of vendors.
Now, I’m not trying to put Toylanta on blast or anything.  I think the attendees totally knew what they were coming to, and they did indeed come for the deals!

Game of Thrones Cosplay Night 2019

On April 13, 2019 Battle & Brew had a Game of Thrones Cosplay Night in honour of Sunday’s premier of the final season of GoT.
Not a lot of people showed up for the cosplay contest, but the food and service was great.  Battle & Brew also had a full house for the gaming, so business was all around great. Battle & Brew also had a few new items on their menu.

Marvel Cosplay Night 2019

Battle & Brew did not disappoint with their Marvel Cosplay Night!
The atmosphere was alive with some of the greatest heroes on the printed page and movie screen, and so many of the contestants received prizes, it seemed more like a party on the house! Plenty of great food and great folks; it was a great night at Battle & Brew.

Post Dragon Con Party 2019

Battle & Brew hosted an event to lighten the passing of Dragon Con this year by holding a cosplay party and contest.
Battle & Brew surprised me yet again by making more additions and improvements that included a Dance Fever-esque light up dance floor what was the shining centerpiece of the party! I was a little disappointed that they did away with their open-faced Prime Rib sandwich platter, but I finally got the chance to enjoy their Tri-Force Nachos and Dragon Talons. Battle & Brew has gone from a hit or miss place to an all-around good time!

Area 51 Night 10/12/19

Area 51 Night at the Battle & Brew wasn’t so much a big night for the party, but a strong night for the regulars that wanted to have a good time gaming and enjoying some drinks.

There were only a handful of cosplayers out that night, but there was an artist and publisher out promoting his new web series based on the Area 51 “Raid” that was the center of many recent memes.

Justin Simmonds of Mind Invader Comixs came to promote his web comic which will center around an alien trying to make it to area 51.

Why is trying to make it to Area 51?  There’s a twist to it, but along the way he collides with Earthlings in all our weird imperfections, and the memes that made the Area 51 “Raid” so viral.

Anime Weekend Atlanta 2019

‘Not to sound like a downer, but I was disappointed this AWA.  I’m not going to go into too much detail right now, but I’m about 70% sure that this is going to be my last AWA for a while.

It wasn’t because of the top brass.  I personally met with some of them, and they are still the very attentive and caring group of individuals, despite change in ownership and some management.

I think that it is a matter of something getting too big to control in its present place, and just a few people; we can’t avoid some people being assholes.

I was finally able to attend the AWA Ball, and I wasn’t impressed.  I could have definitely found a better way to spend my VIP Ball ticket money. (Next time you offer a meal for the VIPs at a certain time, at least list it on the bloody schedule on the program and in the app!)

On the positive tip, there were plenty of great cosplayers and very helpful staff to point us in the right directions.  There were theatre rooms set up for all hours of the night for anime lurkers.  There were also all of the vendor and artist goodness you expect to find at a con.

I didn’t see as many photographers roaming around this time, but I think it might have been because of the highly planned scheduled photo shoots that were listed in the app greatly ahead of time. (I suppose that is a good thing, but I enjoy the chance meetings of conventions.)
